After some extensive searching today, I've found some interesting plans that Nintendo's got in progress. And here they are: Wii MotionPlus Sometimes the Wii Remote's motions can be sort of choppy and laggy, right? Nintendo announced the Wii MotionPlus in a press release on July 14, 2008. The purpose of MotionPlus is to be more fluent and accurate in capturing motion. eurogaming.net got a hands-on preview of this and they described the motions: (Quote) It's fast. That's what really strikes you, almost more than the increased accuracy: with the Wii MotionPlus dongle attached to the base of the Wii remote, there is absolutely zero perceptible lag translating your movements to the screen. No woolliness, no wobble either. It is fluid, smooth, instantaneous, natural. For example, a new game in the Wii series called Wii Sports Resort (which will have 10 games in it, scheduled for release Spring 2009) has a Dog Frisbee game with NO BUTTONS, you just use a Frisbee-throwing motion and the disk flies away. As eurogaming.net says, (Quote) The motions involved in Disc Dog - in which you throw a frisbee at a target for your gambolling puppy (puppii, probably) to catch - are strongly reminiscent of Wii Sports' Bowling. But this time there's no lining up to be done, not even a button to release to let go of the frisbee. The direction, attitude and timing of your throw are dictated by your positioning, movement, aim and wrist action, and nothing else. It's far less cumbersome and fiddly, a very liberating feeling. The actual MotionPlus device attaches to the bottom port of your Wii Remote. Don't worry, it has a port in itself so you can still use the Nunchuk. It's approx. 1.5 inches. MotionPlus comes with Wii Sports Resort free, or you can buy it separate (Price unknown) WiiSpeak This is basically a microphone you connect to the USB port of your Wii and place somewhere around your TV. Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii (Released this winter) will use this to communicate over the internet to other people. The purpose is to "clearly capture many different voices being spoken in a room at the same time and convey that over the Internet." says Shigeru Miyamoto, a designer of the device. It's also supposed to filter out the game sounds too. Unfortunately, it costs $29.99. ---------- >.< |
